Hollywood has dreamt up scenes of the Old West, making us crave to push open those saloon doors with our lace gloves while wearing our taffeta capes. Think of Jodie Foster in Maverick, Miss Kitty Russell in Gunsmoke or Christine White in Bonanza. These strong women made do with what little resources they had and braved the west along with their male counterparts.

Most eastern women tried to live up to the same Victorian lifestyle they had previously, however life out west was a lot different than in the east. In the east, women often had a plethora of garments for several occasions. However, in the west this wasn't as practical. Depending on status, western women had 2 or 3 day dresses for day wear and one exquisite dress for Sunday best or evening wear.
