From the Regency through the Victorian to the Edwardian era, our print dresses are made of 100% cotton and are available in a variety of colors and splendid calico designs. Many are machine washable and dryable, making them as easy to care for as they are to wear. We offer styles perfect for dressy or informal occasions.
Are you looking for something elegant and simple in day wear? Whether you are ready for an afternoon stroll, a lovely tea party, a picnic with friends, or a pioneer or Civil War reenactment, we offer a wide array of designs to complement your style.
Did you know that calico gowns were admired by women of the 1800's because of their attention to style? Our evening dresses offer something comfortable yet suitable for an night of dancing with friends or other celebrations. We even offer one that was inspired by a gown worn by Mary Todd Lincoln! An off-the-shoulder dress, it features a calico collar trimmed in lace and fabric and lace rosette trim graces the center front. Our calico gowns are where romance and comfort come together beautifully.
Each dress is designed and proudly made by Recollections in America! Our renowned Victorian bodice uses multiple seams and darts to create a V-shaped front that is most flattering for all figures. We offer other bodices too, such as basque and boned and lined. Many of our bodices button down the front for your convenience. Looking for something with a high waist? We have several Regency and Edwardian designs from which to choose.
Beauty lies in the details. Hidden pockets, gracefully flowing skirts, and fitted bodices are just the beginning. We offer a variety of necklines including slightly scooped, square, rounded, and high (including one featuring a jewel neckline with lace ruffle and another featuring our classic flattering 'V' cut) . Some are embellished with lace to add interest.
Sleeves may be long, short, or 3/4. We also offer sleeveless dresses. Full and gathered to a cuff just below the elbow, long full leg-o-mutton, short and puffed, pagoda, flounced, lightly pouf ,double-pouf, and long and slim are just a few of the styles offered. From plain to fancy, we have the sleeve that is just right for you.
Our three- and four-gored skirts are graceful and flowing. They easily accept petticoats and/or hoops. Some styles offer an elasticized waist. One features a design that is smooth through the hips then flares below the knee. Long narrow skirts are featured in our Regency-inspired skirts. Long flowing straight skirts are featured in our Edwardian-inspired skirts.
Our dresses can be accessorized in many ways. We offer lacy jabots, collars, cuffs, and gloves to help you complete your look. Boots, shoes, and undergarments are available, too!
Whether you want to step out of a Jane Austen novel, attend a Victorian tea party, or fancy an afternoon garden party at Downton Abbey, we invite you to shop our wide assortment of dresses from the 19th century. All of our fashions are available in size XS to XXXXL.

Most people find that our sizing runs generously. If you are undecided with which size to order, it is best to order the smaller size, or give us a call to assist you (1-800-452-5925). You may also email us at email@example.com with your measurements (bust and waist) and we can help you choose the nearest size.
An exception to the generous sizing is the type of ball gown that requires boning in the bodice and that supports a heavy skirt. Many times this style is also "off-the-shoulder" and requires a firm fit to stay up. These styles tend to not run as generously as most of our other garments because of this. But please, give us a call if you are uncertain.
In most cases you should take your bust and waist measurement to determine your size. Please wear the undergarments that you intend to wear when you do your measuring. For example, take your measurement over the type of brassiere or corset that you may be wearing.
Measure the fullest part of your bust around and the smallest part of your waist.
