Originally released in 1960, the movie “The Magnificent Seven” starring Yul Brenner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, and James Coburn, was a huge hit worldwide. Within a few years, the movie had been translated into a dozen languages and was being enjoyed in nearly every country of the world. The Magnificent Seven garnered three sequels: Return of the Magnificent Seven (1966) brought Yul Brynner back to form a new band of mercenaries; Guns of the Magnificent Seven (1969), which had George Kennedy in the lead; and The Magnificent Seven Ride! (1972), which told the story from Lee Van Cleef’s point of view. These big-screen outings were followed by The Magnificent Seven TV Series in 1998.
Although the television show ‘The Magnificent Seven’ staring Michael Biehn, Eric Close, Dale Midkiff, Ron Perlman, Rick Worthy, Andrew Kavovit and Anthony Starke left the air in 2000, the fans have remained steadfast and loyal. It’s been fifteen years in the making these same fans are proud to present the first fan-based Magnificent Seven TV show convention which will take place the weekend of August 3-4, 2013 at the Los Angeles Convention Center near downtown Los Angeles, California. Hours of the convention will be Saturday, August 3rd 9:00am to 10:00pm and Sunday, August 4th 9:00am to 6:00pm. Tickets and contact information are available through the website or at the door. They are also on face book at M7Con.
The convention, although centered on the show, is also for lovers of the Old West in general and include the emerging phenomenon Steampunk; a mixture of the Victorian era and scientific innovation.
The schedule will include plenty of panel discussions and demonstrations as well. While they are still recruiting more talent, the current lineup of events include historians to talk about life and gear in the Old West, a Steampunk specialist who will show how to craft some period and some punk items and a panel on Victorian fashion and Hollywood’s take on it. There will even be a demonstration of the time honored tradition of sword fighting.
There will also be a night of Old West gambling, saloon girl/cowboy karaoke (with a bar available to build up that karaoke courage), prizes and a costume contest.
A memorabilia auction is also planned with a portion of the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Program.
Of special interest to fans of the Magnificent Seven movie and TV series will be the “Supporting Characters Panel” – A question and answer panel to get to know some of the cast and characters that helped expand the universe of The Magnificent Seven. At the time of this article Sienna Goines and Daren Flan had already signed on to participate.
“The Stars Panel” will be a discussion with questions and answers from some of our very own favorite western heroes. Meet the men of The Magnificent Seven. So far Rick Worthy has signed on to participate. Guests will also be available to sign autographs and memorabilia.
Speaking of memorabilia, the event will include a variety of Vendors – There will be Steampunk items for sale, and event creators are also planning to a Victorian clothing display, along with television and film memorabilia and various authors. There will also be a “swag table” where magazines, information and sponsor offers can be picked up by convention attendees. Please check back to see what new events and guests will be added as the date for the convention approaches.
