Shop Old West Tops
In the Wild West, women had to adapt to their new surroundings. This sometimes meant throwing out decorum from the East and inserting new ideals from the West. Women had to become strong and tough to provide for their families. Famous women like Annie Oakley and Etta Place paraded the West. They were tough and independent, forming a new identity for modern women.
Women even adopted new forms of fashion. The styles they created as "cowgirls" would continue to influence modern fashions today. These new fashions were adopted from their male counterparts, who wore western shirts. The western shirt was created in the early 1800s, as settlers poured into the west searching for a home on the new frontier. The shirt blends the Eastern statesmen wear with Western Indian workwear. Since these settlers were relatively isolated, good fabric was hard to come by. It wasn't until the early 1900s, that the western shirt we know today took form. These shirts with long tails and ornate yokes, came to be after the railway system was finally established and settlers had access to more goods.
