"Hi Barb,
Yesterday at we celebrated President Lincoln's first year in office at my
elementary school, which is named for him. I had so many compliments on the
dress, reticule and gloves that I ordered from Recollections. I
played Elizabeth Todd Grimsley, Mrs Lincoln's cousin, hosting an "entertainment"
at the Executive Mansion in 1861. I set a table with linen tablecloth, pink and
purple fall flowers, silver teapot, and mismatched china (when the Lincolns
arrived at the White House, they found there were only ten matching place
settings, and Mary immediately ordered a new set). Our third, fourth and fifth
grade girls learned about customs and conversations of the era. We served her
vanilla almond cake and strawberries. Your dress made me feel like I was really
there, and I think the students felt that they were, too.
