Editor’s Note: The ladies at Recollections would all love to sit and have a cup of tea, served in fine china, at a linen covered table of course, with Laurie Nienhaus! This fascinating speaker, author, playwright, and Ladies’ Tea Guild founder gently draws her guests into the 19th century and treats them to an enjoyable, soothing, taste of the  past.                                                                                                                      Cathy

Laurie's Story

While on a month-long visit to England with her grandmother, and waiting to be served at a Lake District café, twenty-four-year-old Laurie Nienhaus was captivated by the entrance of a troupe dressed in Victorian clothing. She became intrigued as she watched the group enjoy conversation and companionship over steaming cups of tea. An enthusiast of history, tea, and all things vintage since a child, she was inspired by this Victorian clad ensemble to make this desirable atmosphere of  elegance and finery a part of her everyday life.

Laurie has since managed to capture and share that very ambiance with others. She is founder of the Ladies’ Tea Guild, editor of Sweet Willa’s Review, has written two theatrical teatime comedies titled A Teatime Travesty and Tea-A-Ria, as well as two books titled And Then It Was Teatime and Nana’s Socks. In addition to these accomplishments, Laurie designs handbags reminiscent of the Victorian and Edwardian Eras and is the creator of Designs by Lady Montana, a pattern company specializing in vintage inspired accessories. She is also a public speaker who appears in vintage reproduction attire to present various entertaining, comedic, informational presentations.

For those captivated by the delicate offerings of a simpler era, when people dressed delightfully and halted their busy lives daily in celebration of teatime, Laurie provides sustenance for the spirit. Take time to visit her website at www.glily.com written for tea adventurers, appreciators of finer things, and for "those who value life’s interesting bits and pieces." Plan to make yourself a cup of tea first, you might be there for awhile.

The next time the ladies at Recollections take tea, we shall raise our cups and toast Laurie – an amazing Victorian Lady and kindred spirit!
