Gretchen Moats Gross Lady Dress Up After closing her business for a while, Recollections is proud to re-introduce our clients to Gretchen Moats-Gross, the lovely proprietress of Lady Dress Up, an online store catering to our love of dressing up in period attire. Originally, what was to become the Lady Dress Up business was a single room in Gretchen’s home. This room was stocked with dresses, gowns, gloves, hats, shoes, parasols, evening bags - all in various eras. A group of ladies would come over to her home and into the “dress up” room. Once there, they would dress-to-the-nines in any attire of their choosing. Then, they would move to another room that was staged in vignettes for their photographs to be taken. After the pictures were done, they would travel, via antique cars, to a lovely restaurant on the banks of the Columbia River for a brunch and a time of laughter and giggles all while “strutting their stuff” in their fancy attire.
Gretchen in her favorite Recollections Gown Everyone in the restaurant always seemed to be very taken with the ladies and would ask permission to take their photos. This made for more laughter and giggles. The ladies always had such fun that once back at her home, they always said they didn’t want it to end. Gretchen says she was always so elated to hear their laughter and see how much fun they had. She says this confirms her thought that a little girl’s love of dress up is never really outgrown.

Soon, she opened Lady Dress Up as an online business that she operated for over ten years. After closing the business for a while because of illness, Gretchen has once again come back to the business she loves.
Gretchen says she has always had a love of dressing up. She says, “It runs through my veins – like glitter. I have always been a girly-girl with a love of clothes, accessories and anything pink. I think it’s just the essence of who I am. It’s something you are born with. You either love it or you don’t. When you love it, it becomes a part of your style. It was a bonus for me that Lady Dress Up allowed me a way to provide the same love of dress up to others of the same spirit. I just knew it was a match made in heaven. It is just so much fun. That is why Recollections and Lady Dress Up are a match made in heaven.”
Gretchen confesses to having several favorite periods of style. She reports that she adores the Victorian era; its grace, beauty and femininity really speaks to her tastes. Her second-favorite came a s a surprise – she loves the 1950’s. She says,” I know…… They are worlds apart. To my mind, it was a time of being freer and less inhibited. A safer time - less hurried. The hats, gloves and matching purse seemed so lovely and lady like. However, don’t get me wrong.” She adds, “I believe in the strength of women of today. I believe that I am capable, as all women are, of achieving anything they set their minds to.”
Her wish is that her customers love the opportunities made available to them by Lady Dress Up. Opportunities that provide them with a gateway into the magical world of another time, and another era. She is always searching for something unique, charming and wonderful. “Like a Christmas package just waiting to be opened.”

If Gretchen could offer one bit of advice to like-minded ladies it is, “Just follow your heart and it will lead you to what you love and what brings out your creative essence. Whatever era you are drawn to, just have fun. After all, fun is what keeps us strong for the rest of the week.”
